History
140 years of Bath Tennis
1. Past
Bath Tennis Club was originally founded in 1880 and has quite a notable history with the Club Championship Board dating back to 1912 and, prior to that, the club retains in it’s possession the South West of England Cup with some formidable tennis names, etched as Champions!
2. Present
Our club is open throughout the year. We have 4 Macadam tennis hard courts, last resurfaced in March 2022, and 2 floodlit AstroTurf tennis courts, last resurfaced in November 2024, allowing play to continue in the evening. We have a functional clubhouse with a lounge, fully licensed bar, 40-inch digital television, pool table and hot drinks machine. There is a well-equipped kitchen and men’s and ladies’ changing rooms with toilets and showers.
3. Potential
The long-term survival and ability to build a successful club relies fundamentally on developing future tennis stars. This happens by embedding positive experiences combined with developing competent hand-eye coordination to enhance SAQs (speed, agility, and quickness) and a nurturing approach to developing fundamental knowledge of the game of tennis technically, tactically, physically and mentally. Bath Tennis aims to work closely with youth communities and place Youth Tennis at the heart of our club program. Our Youth Tennis programmes are delivered by Bath Ace and Rich Little Tennis.
Community
Enter the clubhouse, the centre of Bath Tennis
Our clubhouse is available to all members of the Bath Tennis community. We have a fully-licensed bar, a 40-inch digital television, changing rooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. Bath Tennis is accessible to wheelchairs and we strive to make tennis inclusive for everyone.
Vision
What is the club’s direction?
Tennis is for everyone at our club! We want to be even more ‘Opened Up’. We set our core values to highlight the vision for greater inclusivity and diversity opportunities, through community passion and teamwork. Year on year we try to develop and promote new opportunities to broaden the entry points, whether it be led by a need for social inclusion, encouraging a more active lifestyles or simply for the love of being on or around a tennis court; simply enjoying the outdoors and the sounds of tennis and the joy it can bring.
